As the newest member of the Fresh Start Recovery Centre’s Counselling team I have been asked to write a short blog on who I am and what I’m about.

I have been working in the addictions field in Calgary for five years, part time at a medical detox for three years and full time as an Intensive Case Manager, housing homeless individuals suffering from the disease of addiction.

During these five years, I attended Fresh Starts Gratitude Ceremonies to support the men whose celebration was absent of family. I too graduated from a treatment centre and no one showed up as I had burned too many bridges and said one too many sorry’s. I thought I could be a support as a living amends to doing the right thing.

Sitting on the sidelines alone at these ceremonies I was always envious of the Fresh Start staff on the other side of the room and hoped that one day I could work for such an organization. Well today, after doing the next right thing, living within Spiritual Principles and having guidance from something bigger than myself, I now sit on the “other side”.

I am so grateful for this opportunity to be part of an organization that not only saves lives but heals families as well, and I look forward to a rewarding and gratuitous career at Fresh Start Recovery Centre.

Mission Fit

Ron Jarrett, owner of Mission Fitness is what a committed and helpful community partner is all about. He trains the clients in the house weekly and believes that true strength and progress can only be made from a solid foundation.  That foundation includes alignment, mobility and stability, and must address any muscular imbalances, weaknesses and lack of connection.  Achieving this level means the body is able to progress safely without fear of injury. www.missionfit.ca
