Many people this year are looking for the newest iPhone, a new couch, or a vacation get-away?  While all those are quite nice, you know from experience that Christmas can ALSO FEEL special when you are part of giving to those who are looking for more hope. This Christmas especially, you can make a huge impact.

At Fresh Start we see the Christmas miracles that you and other’s make happen all the time…. like Tyler who was featured in our 2014 Christmas Message. That year he needed special permission to take his children – Jayne (6) and Jeffrey (5) – to New York to meet his family for Christmas. It was a big deal for all of them as they flew there and then home with hearts full of gratitude for the experience.

Since then their family life hasn’t been easy. There were times these past few years when it looked as though these three would not be spending this or any other Christmas together. There were constant struggles with a messy custody battle and at one point it looked as though Tyler would not have access to his children because people were constantly bringing up his past  addiction to be used against him and never talking about his transformation in recovery.

Tyler kept his faith in himself and did what he could.  He kept in touch with his outreach counsellor, continued going to his meetings, showed up for alumni functions and he also offered solace to others when they were struggling with their recovery. Tyler’s outreach counsellor suggested he take the “Be A Great Dad” program; where he learned more about patience, coping skills and being present for his children. Tyler focused  on the next right thing until a “miracle” happened.

The miracle was that Tyler’s fight for custody suddenly stopped and the person who had been fighting him so hard suddenly said that she was willing to give him full custody of his children and that she knew they would be well cared for. This Christmas, they will be together as a family.

Your continued support of Fresh Start will help other families – recovering from addiction – experience their own miracle. This year our Christmas giving campaign is focusing first on support for our recently defunded Family Healing Program and then on new towels and bedding for the men in our care.

Our men need TWIN comforters, TWIN Sheets, pillow cases and towels. To  help again this year, please click to
