An excellent program. Thank you for helping me understand the importance of boundaries and consequences. This has also changed my son's attitude towards me. He has found out I now will enforce the boundaries and he better understands the consequences because of it.

The Fresh Start Family Healing Program

For every single person with an addiction that struggles with the disease, there is a also a multitude of people that are also suffering. The torture of helplessly watching the erosion of a loved one’s life is devastating. If you have a person with a substance use disorder in your life, you likely know the feelings of helplessness, despair, and resentment. The good news is; you don’t have to live in the shadow of addiction. Our Family Healing Program (FHP) helps those who are closely associated with someone who is in their addiction (or recovery) deal with the effects of addiction on them and learn how to live in recovery also. Our FHP runs over a five week period, one night a week.

calendarNext program dates are January 11, 2018 – February 8, 2018 with the second on of the year following March 1, 2018 – March 29, 2018.

It is imperative to attend all five weeks in order to be given all of the information, if you are willing to make this commitment please contact Jennifer at 403-387-6266 ext 541 to register or for more information. Program is held at Fresh Start 411-41 Ave, NE. Parking is available in the front and back of the building.

We Provide

At Fresh Start we know that recovery is possible not only for the person with the disease of addiction, but also for the family, friends and community who also suffer from the effects of this chronic illness.  You will have an opportunity to learn more about how the disease has been affecting you and discover new solutions that start with your healing.  You will be given an opportunity to explore and learn more about several topics which include but are not limited to:

  • The disease of addiction
  • Family roles and systems
  • Codependency
  • Boundaries
  • Letting go
  • The grieving process
  • Guilt vs shame
  • Helping vs enabling
  • Introduction to 12 step programs
  • Gratitude and forgiveness

This program has been developed with the knowledge that the disease of addiction is systemic in nature and that it can potentially affect a person’s quality of life as well as those close to them.

I am an alcoholic. I drank alcoholically all the time. That is an excellent name for my condition. It helps to know the name of the problem, but it does not fix it. I have to have a spiritual awakening to fix it, and I can achieve that by doing the steps. The steps have one promise and one promise only. The result of these steps is a spiritual awakening. That will fix the alcoholic problem.

I suffer from Narcissistic Injuries all the time. That is an excellent name for my sensitive nature. Narcissistic Injury – a psychological term - taking personally utterly indifferent and objective events. I do that when my sense of self is fragile and when I depend on life going my way all the time. It helps to have a name, but that does not fix it. I have to do something to fix it.

I am humbled daily by the courage of others who despite their fears make a choice to live in the solution.  This is why I continue to work at Fresh Start Recovery Centre, I have seen people make these changes and am grateful to be a part of this bigger process.

On February 14, 2013 I updated my Facebook status to say how good life was and how lucky I am to have met the man of my dreams and how grateful I am for having two healthy beautiful kids. Just three short hours later, my world came crashing down when I learned that my husband was addicted to methamphetamines.
