Fresh Start has never given up on me, so I will never give up on myself. I have the skills and the power to do anything I put my mind to.”

About Fresh Start

Addiction has no cure but has a solution. That solution is recovery. Let us show you how to live a life free from alcohol and other drugs.
Reach out. We are here to help.

Fresh Start treatment follows the disease concept: We see addiction as an illness that is progressive, and often fatal if untreated. The good news is that with treatment and a program of recovery, addicts can and do live healthy, happy and productive lives. Our goal is to send fathers back to their kids, sons back to their families, and to restore them back into community as productive and content men.

With our intensive treatment program, and solid community support, we see that this is reality. We see the lives restored and the families who have been brought together through recovery. Our nationally recognized treatment program offers an individual approach to recovering. There is no one size fits all treatment.

We offer a 12 week program with one on one counselling, group facilitated healing, mike miles physical training, balanced nutritional meals, Pure North’s energy assessment and support and an opportunity to build a strong foundation of recovery.

THE HOUSE

Fresh Start - The House

Fresh Start is a 50-bed residential alcohol and drug addiction treatment centre for men in Calgary, Alberta. We base our program on the 12 steps and the Family Systems Method. We provide a comfortable environment where men and their families can escape addiction, and learn to live rewarding and fulfilling lives in recovery.

Fresh Start has been helping people live in recovery since 1992. Today we operate in a purpose-built facility that is one of the largest residential treatment centres in Alberta. Opened in winter 2011/12, our home is the result of years of planning and experience. We feel it provides the ideal setting for men and their families to begin their new lives, free from addiction. It’s a big, vibrant, and welcoming place, designed to feel like a home—in fact, our residents and staff alike refer to it as “the House”.

FROM OUR BLOG

Blog post summary picture

Starting May 28th, my goal is to cycle across Canada inspiring others to be vulnerable and ask for help; as well as join the fitness community and live a healthy lifestyle. My route from St. John's to Victoria will incorporate stops along the way at 10 or more treatment centres. I hope to share my story, help make connections to fitness, and donate $1000 to help set up fitness programs in the centres.

Introducing Connie, the face behind the front desk. She is most in touch with waitlist clients, in-house clients and alumni. The waitlist clients generally number 100 or so and each one of them is required to call daily to let us know how they are doing.  Admittance to the day program, or the residential program, is done from the main waitlist.  We have other waitlists for specific population groups and they are separate from the main list. I talk to many mothers and fathers who are trying to find help for their child and I try to provide them with information that will help. I receive calls from as far away as Nova Scotia. Spend time talking with the parents about our Family Healing Program and how it will help them in their understanding of the addict/alcoholic.  They are grateful for the information I provide. All of these different contacts are satisfying and I am grateful to be of help. I also let all of these contacts know that I am also in recovery and we share and laugh about certain circumstances.
